Genetic studies on the tolerance of Jungmo1024 during high temperature ripening condition and elith line development

초록 | High temperature, in summer, during rice ripening stage plays negative roles in terms of yield reduction and especially grain quality. An early flowering Korean Japonica cultivar, ‘Jungmo1024’, exhibiting tolerance against high temperature during ripening stage, was developed through sodium azide mediated mutation breeding on ‘Namil’. To address the genetics of ‘Jungmo1024’, a total of 140 F2 progenies derived from the cross between ‘Jungmo1024’ and the wild type, ‘Namil’ were evaluated within a temperature controlled (average 28℃) phytotron during ripening stage. Through association analyses between DNA marker genotypes and the phenotype (head brown rice ratio) of each F2 progeny, four loci on rice chromosomes 1, 5 and 6 were initially determined as the major loci related with the head brown rice ratio, where the allele type of ‘Jungmo1024’ at all four loci contributed to increase the head brown rice ratio. ‘Jungmo1024’ was also crossed with another early flowering rice cultivar, ‘Jopyeong’, having multi-resistance against rice blast, bacterial blight and rice strip virus to transfer the genetic factors of ‘Jungmo1024’ relating with the high temperature tolerance. Through successive and simultaneous selections over the progeny lines in every generation and on resistance levels against pathogens as well as brown rice appearance, two improved early flowering elite lines were successfully developed. These lines exhibit not only high temperature tolerance and pathogen resistance but also improved yield potential along with high sensory test score.
