초록 | Cardiovascular disease, including ischemic heart disease (e.g., coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction), is the leading cause of mortality and a major contributor to disability worldwide. Traditional treatments, such as heart transplants and bypass procedures, while highly successful, are limited by factors like the shortage of donor organs and high costs. Recent advancements in cardiac tissue engineering have demonstrated the potential of engineered heart tissues (EHTs) and 3-dimensional bioprinting technology to overcome challenges associated with current heart treatments. This review explores recent developments in the creation of EHTs, with a focus on the sources of cells and bioinks, bioprinting techniques, various types of EHTs, and their applications in disease modeling. Additionally, we discuss the challenges and emerging opportunities in cardiac tissue engineering, emphasizing the future roles of EHTs in drug testing, disease modeling, and personalized therapy. We also highlight the profound impact of bioprinting technologies on the field of heart regenerative medicine. |
